Saturday vigil - rah
*WHEELCHAIR ASSISTANCE REQUIRED FOR SATURDAY HOSPITAL VIGIL MASS AT RAH, PAISLEY:
Once more, in the spirit of Making All Things New, we are appealing for some volunteers to join our rota for wheel chair assistance to enable patients at the RAH to attend the 4pm Saturday Vigil Mass. You will assist a person from the ward to the hospital chapel, stay with them for Mass, and then take them back to the ward. Volunteers need to have or need to obtain a PVG as standard Diocesan practice. Can you please contact Monsignor John Tormey for further details on 01505 320 900 or email him at staidan@rcdop.org.uk. You will be asked to join our rota of helpers, probably helping once every three or four weeks. You are free to change your day with another helper if you can’t do the day when it’s your turn. We have had some helpers leave the rota recently and we really do need some fresh recruits. Please consider giving some of your time to help those who are ill and who will benefit from your kindness. Thank you. Mgr John Tormey.

ACN Solidarity Prayer
Please join
Aid to the Church in Need
in prayer and ask God to protect the Christian people in the Middle East who are suffering discrimination and oppression because of their faith:
Heavenly Father, we ask that you sustain, comfort and heal the hearts of Christians in the Middle East who are living in fear of the Islamic State. We especially remember those in Iraq and Syria.
May we in Scotland be encouraged by their example and may we never take for granted the freedom we have to follow you.
Come Holy Spirit and fill the hearts of thy faithful and enkindle in them thy love and mercy.
Compassionate creator, please forgive those who persecute Christians, reach out to them with your grace and your love.
We ask all this through your Son, Jesus. Amen

Mary's meals - founder's message
Mary's Meals founder, Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow, has recorded a special message in the hope that you will help to spread the word about "our beautiful mission to feed hungry children around the world."
The coronavirus pandemic is causing challenges for us all, and we are very sorry that we cannot visit your church at this time to share the Mary’s Meals story.
Until we can be together again, our founder, Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow, has recorded a special message for your parishioners. His message was filmed outside the shed in Argyll where it all began for Mary’s Meals. For ways to donate to Mary's Meals, please visit their website: https://www.marysmeals.org.uk/donate

There has been a huge rise in abortion, following the Scottish Government’s introduction of a policy permitting abortion procedures to take place at home. We are most alarmed that this trivialises abortion, further cheapens human life and put women at risk.
SPUC has taken major actions to try and stop this. Last year, in 2018, we decided to take legal action to stop this damaging and reckless policy. The generous contributions from our supporters have made this possible. Unfortunately, just before Christmas, we heard that we had lost the first stage of this case and that the Court of Session viewed woman’s home as an appropriate place for abortion. In March 2019 we launched an official Appeal against this decision. Sadly, we learned a fortnight ago, that our court battle was lost, and we are now facing the prospect of going to the Supreme Court and taking on all the demands that sucha path entails. The 2018 abortion statistics for Scotland have just been released and highlighted how damaging the new policy has been. The statistics have shown a corresponding huge jump in the number of abortions—an extra 1000 in Scotland just last year (an increase of 8.9%). Having worked with politicians across the political divide, I can tell you that many (even those who are pro-abortion) are shocked and saddened by the introduction of home abortion.
At SPUC we know we cannot do our work without YOUR HELP. Please support us
by signing our petition. Thank you.

Earth Day at 50/Laudato Si’ at 5:
An Urgent Appeal for Action
Earth Day is an annual event celebrated around the world on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection.
The urgent challenge to protect our common home includes a concern to bring the whole human family together to seek a sustainable and integral development…Humanity still has the ability to work together in building our common home. Young people demand change. They wonder how anyone can claim to be building a better future without thinking of the environmental crisis and the sufferings of the excluded. (Laudato Si’ 13)
Earth Day Network’s 50th anniversary theme is, “Climate Action” and help us commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Pope’s encyclical letter, Laudato Si’.
Humanity is at a critical crossroad. Most scientists, policy-makers, and religious leaders agree that climate change is an existential threat to God’s creation.
Yet, young people are taking action. THIS is the moment for all to join with them in their call for action.
2020 is the year we MUST take action. From pews to polling stations, you and your faith community can step up and take action at all levels: as individuals as communities, as states and as a nation. You can call for greater global ambition to tackle our climate crisis and you can lower your carbon footprint. This is YOUR moment.
Are you ready? Whether you’re taking your first step or have been a long time actor in addressing climate change, you can find a path forward and make a difference just by amending your own and your family’s practices.

* FAIRTRADE and RAINBOW TURTLE, PAISLEY:
Fairtrade and Rainbow Turtle need your support:
Please consider shopping from Rainbow Turtle
either at Gauze Street or on line.
It is a shocking fact that millions of poor farmers who produce the food we love still do not earn enough to feed their own families. It is time for this injustice to end.
Through Fairtrade, millions of poor farmers and workers are already coming together to demand change. They are working hard to close the door on exploitation and transform their communities, supported by Fairtrade.
For ways to get involved go to:
http://www.fairtrade.or.uk/Get-Involved/Currentcompaigns/
Also remember there is a Fairtrade shop in Paisley, Rainbow Turtle, 7 Gauze Street,
opposite the Abbey where you can buy Fairtrade coffee, tea, biscuits, jam, chocolate, gifts and much more. Maybe you could make a point of going into the shop during this fortnight and supporting the Fairtrade movement.
